Code of Conduct

This is a neighborhood league. These are the standards we expect from players, captains, and anyone who comes to watch.

Treat people well

Give your opponents, your partner, and your hosts the same courtesy you would want.
Greet the other team before you start, and meet them at the net when you finish.
Play to win, and be gracious either way.

Calling the lines

There are no referees. Every match is officiated by the four people on the court.

You call the balls on your side. Your opponents call the balls on theirs.
When in doubt, the ball is in. Any doubt goes to your opponent.
Call faults on yourself — stepping into the non-volley zone, a double bounce, touching the net.
If you disagree with a call, ask about it once, politely. Do not argue it.
If the two teams genuinely disagree, replay the point.

Rate yourself honestly

You pick your own skill level when you sign up, and you can only join leagues at your level or above. Rating yourself below your real level to win easier matches is grounds for removal from the league. If you are unsure, pick the higher level.

Behavior that does not belong here

Profanity, verbal abuse, taunting, or trash talk.
Aggression of any kind toward a player, a captain, or anyone watching.
Throwing or slamming a paddle, or hitting a ball in anger.
Arguing a call repeatedly, or pressuring the other team to change one.
Playing while intoxicated.
Betting on matches or league outcomes.
Entering a score you know is wrong, or playing someone who is not on your roster.

You are a guest

Half your matches are at another community. When you are the visitor, follow that community's entry, parking, and facility rules, and clean up after yourselves. When you are hosting, tell your captain anything the visiting team needs to know about getting in.

Anyone you bring to watch is your responsibility, and this code applies to them.

Play safely

If a ball rolls onto an active court, call “ball” loudly enough for everyone to hear.
Do not chase a ball into a court that is still in play, and do not return one until the point in front of you is over.
Know your limits.

When someone crosses the line

Start with a conversation on the court. If that does not resolve it:

Talk to your captain. Captains handle most issues between their teams.
Report it to us. Use the feedback form in the app, or email the address below. Include what happened, when, and who was there.
We follow up. Depending on what happened, that can mean a conversation, a formal warning, removal from a team, or removal from the league. Threatening or physical conduct means immediate removal.

Players under 18

Younger players are welcome. A parent or guardian sets up and oversees the account, and is responsible for the player's conduct under this code.
